When I began introducing letters to my twins, I created our own sandpaper letters, letter cards and hands-on activities inspired by Montessori principles. We traced letters with our fingers, wrote them in sand and rice, searched for letters around the house and connected each sound to real life. No. Alphabet Foundations is a digital printable bundle delivered as PDF files. Nothing will be shipped. You can print the pages you need at home or through a local print shop.
What ages is it designed for?
It is designed primarily for children ages 3–6. The Teaching Guide includes age-based suggestions for ages 3, 4, 5, and 6, allowing you to adapt the activities to your child’s readiness and attention span.
Will this teach my child to read?
Alphabet Foundations builds the skills that come before and support reading, including letter recognition, letter sounds, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and early writing. It also includes optional early word-building activities for children who are ready. It is not a complete phonics-to-fluent-reading curriculum.
Do I need Montessori materials?
No. The program is Montessori-inspired, but expensive wooden materials are not required. Printable versions of several Montessori-style resources are included, and most activities use simple supplies such as paper, crayons, scissors, glue, and playdough.
